Sprinkling Happiness

This school year, we began to implement PBIS-Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports across the campus and district. As part of back to school, staff has proclaimed the first day and each Monday of the first month of school to “Sprinkle Happiness”. Staff welcome students and other teachers in the morning, hold signs with positive messages and cheer when the bus arrives. I admit, I thought it was a little corny, but then I got into the swing and created my own messages on the sidewalk.

I am not an artist by any means. So my choices
were very limited. I can draw hearts, stars,
happy faces and write words. That is the extent. And since I was using a foam roller, there was a limit on the words I was able to write, although I will say that my circles looked fairly round. I drew a crescent moon at the door of a male coworker and he wanted to know why I drew a banana at his door.

The painting was so well received by all the staff that we will certainly do this again.

In fact, some of my colleagues in the math department have discussed doing some math activities outside with number lines and coordinate planes. The chalk paint lasted several days. We are just waiting until the weather cools a little, NO ONE wants to go outside to do math or anything else when the temperature is 100 degrees. I used this product, which is about $6-$7 at JoAnns, but used my handy dandy discount card and that day saved an additional 25%. I also found that it can be ordered online by the tub. I guess I should have saved the plastic containers with the rollers so I could refill them.
